The Fergana Oil Refinery (FNR) has launched a large-scale program to improve the quality of the produced base oils. The program includes the modernization of the atmospheric-vacuum column and the refurbishment of production units that manufacture mineral base oils. The goal of the program is to bring the physicochemical characteristics of the oils in line with the best European samples.

As part of the first phase of the program, the catalyst in the base oil hydrotreatment column has been replaced. This unit performs deep purification of oil cuts from sulfur, nitrogen, aromatic hydrocarbons, and asphaltene substances, which negatively affect the oils' oxidation stability, corrosion properties, and color.

The technical specialists at SANEG selected the most advanced solution — a catalyst from the HyBRIM family, produced by the world leader in catalytic process technologies, the Danish company Topsoe. This new generation of catalysts ensures deep purification from sulfur and nitrogen impurities.

The new catalyst will allow for the most efficient use of the hydrotreatment unit's potential and will produce oils with improved antioxidant and anticorrosion properties, as well as enhanced color, bringing the product closer to the global standards for base oils according to API.

After hydrotreatment, the improved base oils will be utilized in the production of motor, transmission, hydraulic, gear, compressor, and other types of commercial oils under the SEG Motol brand.
